Detailed Description
|
I found two strands of this magnificant gemstone called Larimar* several years ago. I was seduced by its amazing colors and this year finally made up two beautiful collars. It can be worn on the "raw" side randomly placed as pictured above or as a flat graded collar shows all the tones at one time in a collar pattern. It can also be turned on the flat polished side. Multi-toned Peruvian Opal rondels and a custom moonstone clasp complete the piece 21" ONLY TWO
*
Larimar is a distinctive rare gemstone found exclusively in a
remote mountainous region in southwestern Dominican Republic. It is prized by gemologists for its brilliant volcanic blue
coloration containing sky blue, pale blue, green and jade white, all reflecting the surrounding Caribbean Sea. This rare stone was probably used by the Taino Indians who lived in the area 1,000 years before Columbus arrived. But it was only officially "discovered" and named in 1974 when a local artisan, Miguel Mendez, traced the source and had it validated by the Smithsonian Museum. He named it Larimar after his daughter Larissa and the Spanish word for the sea.
