Detailed Description
|
If you've ever explored caves, you've probably seen needle-like mineral formations called stalactites* hanging from the ceilings, walls or rising from the floor. This particular specimen features pink amethyst with purple edges and beautiful expanding circles of minerals formed over many years This is so special that all it needs is a sparkling filigree sterling chain. 28"
*Stalactite comes from the Greek word for "drip" and is a mineral formation that hangs from the ceiling or wall of limestone caves. This solution travels through the rock until it reaches an edge and if it is the on the roof of the cave it will drip down in needle-like shapes. Every stalactite begins with a single mineral-filled drop of water. When the drop falls, it leaves behind a thin ring of calcite. Each subsequent drop that falls deposits another ring. Eventually these rings form a very narrow hollow tube known as a "soda straw" When formations on the ceiling and floor over time eventually meet, they fuse into fascinating columns, some of the more famous are wonders of the world. Have some fun and click on this VIRTUAL CAVE to see a fantastic show!
