I discovered this wonderful strand of natural chrysophrase* with freeform shapes and a variety of shadings from apple green to dark green to pale green. This is quite rare and simply presented with double Japanese silk knots and a rare vintage chrysophrase sterling silver clasp.18"
*The name chrysoprase comes from the Greek for "gold-leek", though the name now seems inappropriate, since chrysoprase is typically apple-green to deep-green. It is considered to be rarest and most valuable gem in the chalcedony group. It has been used as a decorative stone since ancient times. A favorite of Frederick the Great of Prussia, chrysoprase can be seen decorating many buildings in Prague, including the Chapel of St Wenceslas. Sometimes in gem form it is compared or confused with light jade.
